Laurie's Lessons

Why Your “Why” Matters – Defining Your Purpose

In this training, I share one of the most important foundations for building your business—and your life: defining your WHY.

Your WHY is your fuel. It’s the reason you’ll keep going when challenges show up. Without it, success feels empty. With it, you become unstoppable. 💪✨

🔑 What You’ll Learn in This Training:

  • ✅ Why your WHY is the foundation of success
  • ✅ The difference between a surface WHY and a deep WHY
  • ✅ How to uncover the real reason that drives you
  • ✅ The 5-Why exercise to dig deeper into your purpose
  • ✅ Why your WHY must be written, visible, and shared
  • ✅ How a strong WHY helps you push through obstacles

💡 Key Takeaway:

When your WHY makes you cry, you’ve found it.
Your WHY is your anchor, your engine, and your motivation to keep building—no matter what.

✨ Action Step for You:
Take a few minutes today to write out your WHY. Then share it with your leader, a teammate, or in the comments below. Let’s cheer each other on as we stay rooted in purpose. 🙌

Treat it like a business

Treat It Like a Business… But Build It Around Your Life

I often hear people say, “If you treated it like a business and not a hobby, you’d find the time.”

Let me be clear—I’ve never treated any of my businesses as a hobby.

For 34 years, I’ve consistently run my web, graphic design, and branding company.
For 24 years, I’ve worked my cards business.
For 20 years, I’ve spoken, coached, and trained others.
For the last 3 years, I’ve poured into building my patch business.
All while leading networking luncheons, supporting police wives, widows, women in business, and sharing gratitude through Gratitude Girls.

And yes—I’ve also been a wife, a homeschool mom, and someone who has grieved great losses, including my late husband, the father of my children.

So here’s the truth I’ve learned through it all:

I never built my businesses instead of my family.
I built them for my family.
And I still do.

Yes, you may hear: “Work hard now so you can enjoy more time with family later.”
But what if “later” never comes?
What if your spouse or child is no longer here?
What will you regret more—missed business milestones or missed moments with those you love?

Family will always be my first priority.
That doesn’t mean I stop building—it means I learn to schedule intentionally.

📅 I schedule time with my husband.
📅 I schedule time with my kids and grandkids.
📅 I schedule spiritual time, personal time, business time, rest time.
Because if it’s not scheduled, it probably won’t happen.

💡 You can build a successful business while prioritizing what truly matters.
💡 You must stay consistent—whether it’s 10 minutes or 10 hours a day.
💡 You should remember your WHY—why you started, who you’re doing this for, and what legacy you want to leave.

Consistency doesn’t mean burning out.
It means not giving up.
It means showing up, over and over, with purpose.

Balance isn’t about perfection.
It’s about priorities.
And for me, that means building businesses around my life—not building my life around my business.

⚠️ Don’t sacrifice the people you love for the success you’re chasing.
📅 Schedule your time with intention.
❤️ Build a business that supports your life—not swallows it.

What are you making excuses for?

📌 What are you making excuses for?
🙋‍♀️ Ministry?
💼 Business?
💍 Marriage?
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family?
💫 Life?

Be honest—are you holding back because it didn’t go perfectly the first time?

Remember when you were learning to walk, fell, and said…
“I quit—crawling’s not so bad”?
Yeah, me neither—because you got back up.
We laugh now, but that mindset can still sneak in.

Stop settling. Stop excusing. Start moving forward.
You’re not meant to crawl through life—try again. You’ve got this.

🛑 Stop making excuses.
🔁 Start again.
💪 You were made to move forward.

The Power of the Follow-Up 💥📲

Over the last few months, we’ve gotten multiple bids for a project on our home.
Guess how many followed up? ZERO.
Okay, ONE did… but just once. And then… silence. Even though we sounded very interested. (Spoiler: we are! 😅)

Now contrast that with this 👇

Last week I messaged a lady on Facebook Marketplace about a yellow & blue wreath 🌻💙 for my front door.
She didn’t make it, but kindly replied. I simply said thank you and mentioned I might check back.

Well… 4 days later she reached out to me with pictures of similar wreaths, asking if I was still interested.
Guess what? I drove an hour today and bought THREE wreaths from her! 🙌

💡One follow-up = three sales.
Lesson? Fortune is in the follow-up. Always. 💰✨

Feeling stuck?

💥 Ever catch yourself mid-day, staring at the screen like your brain just walked out? 😵‍💫
You’re not tired—you’re just out of state.
And listen, it’s not your to-do list… it’s your energy.

✨ Speak it FIRST. Always.
If your energy is off—your focus is off.
If your focus is off—your results are gone.

So what do top achievers do differently?
They don’t just “push through”…
They reset—fast and intentionally.

👇 Here’s how I snap back in under 60 seconds:

1️⃣ Stand UP.
Change your posture = change your energy. 💃🏽

2️⃣ Move BIG.
Clap, jump, dance it out—whatever shifts the vibe. ⚡️

3️⃣ Speak with POWER.
Say it out loud: “I’m back. I’m focused. Let’s go!” 🗣️💪

This isn’t just a pep talk—it’s a physiological shift.
You’re telling your mind and body: “We’re still in the game.” 🧠🔥

Repeat this 2-3x a day and watch what happens…
⚡️ Clarity comes back.
⚡️ Momentum builds.
⚡️ Results multiply.

You’re not broken. You’re powerful.
Sometimes… you just need a reminder. 💖

The Art of Simplicity: Applying the KISS Principle (Keep It Super Simple)

We’ll explore how to streamline language, avoid jargon, and present information in a clear and digestible way. Think concise language, focused points, and uncluttered visuals.

Welcome to Lesson 7, where we discover the profound power of “The Art of Simplicity.” In a world drowning in information, your ability to communicate clearly is your greatest asset. We’ll explore how to apply the KISS Principle(Keep It Super Simple) to every aspect of your speech—from streamlining your language and avoiding jargon to focusing your points and creating clean, uncluttered visuals. This lesson will show you that simplicity isn’t about dumbing down your message; it’s about amplifying its impact and making it impossible to misunderstand.

  • Clarity is King: Understand why simple, straightforward language is the key to building credibility and enhancing audience retention.
  • The War on Jargon: Learn practical strategies for identifying and eliminating complex jargon and filler words from your vocabulary.
  • Focused Points: Discover the power of focusing on one clear idea at a time to prevent your audience from feeling overwhelmed.
  • Uncluttered Visuals: Get tips on designing slides and visual aids that support your message without distracting from it.
  • The Art of the Edit: Embrace the mindset of a ruthless editor, stripping away the unnecessary to reveal the powerful core of your message.

1 Corinthians 14:9: “So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall but speak into the air.”

  • Connection: This verse directly and powerfully speaks to the need for “words easy to be understood.” It warns against speaking without clarity, comparing it to “speaking into the air,” which means the message is lost and ineffective. This perfectly encapsulates the KISS principle’s goal of making information digestible and avoiding jargon, so the audience can clearly grasp what is being said.

Proverbs 8:9: “They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.”

  • Connection: This verse suggests that truth and wisdom (or knowledge) are inherently “plain” to those who are receptive and seeking understanding. While it speaks to the listener’s readiness, it also implies that the message itself, if presented correctly, can be plain and accessible. This aligns with the speaker’s responsibility to make their message as plain and understandable as possible, removing obstacles to comprehension.

2 Corinthians 1:13: “For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;”

  • Connection: Here, Paul emphasizes that his communication is straightforward and transparent – what they read is exactly what he intends them to acknowledge. There’s no hidden meaning or unnecessary complexity. This reflects the principle of clear, concise, and uncluttered communication, where the message is directly understood without confusion, from beginning to “the end.”
